Graduation Stoles
We're excited to help students prepare for their upcoming graduation. This page provides information on how student organizations can obtain a graduation stole.
The Student Graduation Stole Guidelines apply to registered honors, community service, academic, leadership, professional student organizations and specific service programs recognized by the University. Student organizations that fall into one of these categories are permitted to wear stoles at graduation. Before a stole is worn at graduation, the graduation stole committee must approve the stole design.
Stole FAQs
Qualifying students may wear official, approved stoles issued by registered honors, community service, academic, athletic, leadership and professional student organizations.
These stoles must:
- be produced by UIW's licensed vendors and follow the UIW Brand Guide.
- be approved by the Graduation Stole Committee and the Visual Corporate Identity Committee (VCIC) before use at the Baccalaureate Mass or commencement ceremony.
- Designs can be created by any member of an approved UIW group/organization.
- Design assistance is available from UIW's graphic design department.
- Designs must meet UIW Brand Guide requirements.
- Stole artwork is reviewed by a committee before each commencement ceremony.
- Artwork must be submitted by a University advisor, faculty or staff member for the organization.
- Deadlines for submissions will be published on the campus engagement website.
- Use the provided form to submit proposals and upload supporting artwork.
- The organization must be recognized by UIW and indicated on the stole.
- Design aligns with UIW's Mission and brand guidelines.
- Design aligns with the organization's mission.
- Design is respectful and appropriate for the ceremony.
- Design fits the dimensions of a commencement stole.
The committee will review the design and either disapprove, approve or recommend alterations.
- Organizations must submit revised designs for approval after receiving recommendations.
- Approved designs can be used in subsequent ceremonies unless otherwise notified by the committee.
Organizations wishing to redesign an approved stole must follow the submission process outlined above.
Yes, you will need to resubmit so we can make sure the stole meets the standards of the new guidelines.
Only honor cords awarded through institutionally recognized leadership organizations or membership in academic organizations through the schools/college are permitted as part of the academic regalia. Students who hold membership in approved honor societies or leadership organizations are permitted to wear honor cords as part of their academic regalia.
