UIW International Statement

The University of the Incarnate Word is a global system in Catholic, higher education with campuses in San Antonio, South Texas, Mexico and Europe. UIW campuses in every location are places of international study and welcoming environments for students from all over the world. Our deep commitment serves the fundamental aim of the University, clearly stated in our Mission to educate men and women who will become concerned and enlightened citizens within the global community.

UIW is committed to offering transformational education through academic programs that include global perspectives. Our Mission calls us to welcome persons of diverse backgrounds in the belief that their respectful interactions advance the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realization, and the common good. The Office of International Affairs supports the University in achieving its Mission on every campus by increasing the international experience and intercultural competency of the UIW community and reaching students in other countries where the UIW Mission could be implemented. Internationalization at UIW is advanced through numerous efforts, programs and initiatives including the following:

  1. International Student Support: Support services for international students, visiting scholars and exchange students from over 80 countries
  2. Recruiting International Students
  3. The Lewis Center of the Americas: A hub for cooperative international study, research, service and dialogue dedicated to the promotion of strong relations and understanding among the people and nations of the Americas
  4. Global Online: An academic program providing personal and professional growth through North American degrees or diplomas, taught in Spanish across the Latin American region
  5. Mexico Campuses: Centro Universitario Incarnate Word (CIW) in Mexico City and Universidad Incarnate Word Campus Bajío in Irapuato, Guanajuato offering double degrees at the undergraduate and graduate level
  6. International Research and Teaching: Collaboration with UIW faculty and staff to jointly pursue experiential international opportunities and mobility for the community
  7. Sister School Connections: Collaborations and strategic partnerships with UIW sister universities in six continents and over 140 study abroad locations around the world
  8. International Service-Learning: Opportunities for service abroad that support students to become agents of social change impacting our global community on healthcare and other social issues
  9. Intercultural Programming: Vibrant social programming that strengthens cross-cultural understanding and friendship across the UIW international community
  10. International Experiences in Students’ Home Countries: Bringing international experience to the classroom
