Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) FAQs
QEP, which stands for "Quality Enhancement Plan," plays a pivotal role in the reaffirmation of accreditation process. Derived from an institution’s ongoing comprehensive planning and evaluation, it serves as a cornerstone reflecting a commitment to strengthening institutional quality and effectiveness. The QEP focuses on a specific issue deemed critical by the institution to enhance student learning outcomes and overall student success.
In addition to being an integral part of UIW’s accreditation process through SACSCOC, the QEP prioritizes one area where UIW can enhance students learning. Over a five-year period, we will dedicate our efforts to making significant improvements in this targeted area, ensuring our students receive the best possible education.
A UIW degree holds its value through our maintained accreditation, which is essential for our students’ academic and professional success. Additionally, only students attending accredited institutions are eligible for federal financial aid.
UIW’s QEP is focused on improving undergraduate students' reading comprehension skills. This initiative involves leveraging a variety of strategies, including the use of AI, to help students analyze complex texts, extract relevant information, and enhance their decision-making processes in both academic and real-world contexts.
A good QEP includes:
- a well-defined topic that was identified through an ongoing and comprehensive planning and evaluation process
- engagement from the entire university community
- goals for specific student learning outcomes
- baseline data and targets for improvement
- clearly identified human and financial resources
- ongoing planning and evaluation
- a plan to assess achievement
