Dr. Ann D. David is a teacher educator who prepares students to teach in middle and high school. She is serving the university as the Director of QEP Faculty Development, which is focused on improving undergraduate reading comprehension across disciplines.

Prior to becoming a teacher educator, Dr. David taught high school English and theatre in public and private schools in the Midwest. Her research focuses on the impacts of censorship and teaching writing. She co-edits a column, Teaching in a Time of Censorship, for the English Journal and co-edited the book When Teaching Writing Gets Tough.

Dr. David is involved in her professional organizations. She is Chair of the Standing Committee Against Censorship for the National Council of Teachers of English. She is also Chair of the Preservice Teacher Development Section of the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts and the co-director of the San Antonio Writing Project.

Research and Grants:

Dr. David has been awarded multiple Faculty Endowment Research Awards, individually and with colleagues.

From 2016-2020, Dr. David served as the Curriculum Coordinator for Called and Consecrated, an online curriculum available in English and Spanish that explores the lives of women religious. The project was funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. The online curriculum is free and available at calledandconsecrated.org.
