Professor Quijano hails from Nicaragua, “land of lakes and volcanoes, poets and revolutionaries.” She earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Spanish Literature at the University of California, Los Angeles. During her time in California, she was a Lecturer at UCLA, Mount St. Mary’s College and its Weekend College, Santa Monica College, and other institutions of higher education in the greater Los Angeles area. A state certified translator and interpreter, she served as a psychiatric, medical, and court interpreter.

In addition, she worked in Business and Film translations. A spanish language specialist of the Master Plan Teacher Training Program, Professor Quijano taught Spanish to teachers and administrators of the Los Angeles Unified School District and prepared them for fluency exams and bilingual certification. For personal and professional enrichment, she has traveled extensively in the U.S. and has visited Central America, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Germany, France, Canada, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and Thailand. Every year, as research and part of continuing education, Professor Quijano regularly enrolls in courses and attends lectures, presentations, conferences, and exhibitions on cinema, language, art and architecture, philosophy and history.

Professor Quijano has taught a variety of Spanish language classes ranging from basic grammar, composition and conversation to seminars in literature, history, gender studies, theatre, and film at higher education institutions in the San Antonio area. She is a passionate learner and facilitator of all things Hispanic. Committed to excellence, Professor Quijano strongly believes in creating a balanced learning environment where cultural exploration and language acquisition will be an enjoyable, useful and rewarding experience.
